Why Profile Pictures Look Small, and What "Full Size" Means

X shows profile pictures as small circles and loads a tiny version to save data. The original file X keeps is usually much larger. X recommends uploading at 400×400 pixels, and many people upload bigger. This downloader fetches the original, shows its real dimensions before you download, and offers the 400×400 square too.

If the full-size picture still looks blurry, the photo was small or heavily compressed when it was uploaded. No downloader can add detail that was never there.

The header, also called the banner or cover, is the wide image at the top of a profile. X’s recommended size is 1500×500 pixels, and the downloader fetches it at that size when available. Some accounts never set one; the page tells you when that’s the case.
