What Is a Quote Tweet?
A quote tweet, now called a quote post on X, is a repost with your own comment added on top. The original post appears embedded inside yours, so your followers see both your take and the post you’re reacting to. It sits between a plain repost, which shares without comment, and a reply, which answers inside the original thread.
People quote to agree, disagree, add context, joke or build on an idea. That is why quote posts often hold the most interesting part of a conversation, and sometimes the pile-on.

How to See Quote Tweets
On X
Open the post, tap the three dots and choose View post engagements, then Quotes. On some versions, the quote count under the post also opens the list. You need to be logged in.

Why You See Fewer Quote Tweets Than the Counter Says
The quote count includes every quote ever made, but some can’t be shown:
- quotes from protected accounts are visible only to their approved followers;
- deleted quotes can stay in the count for a while;
- X may hold back quotes it treats as spam.
