How to See Someone’s Mentions on Twitter Without a Tool

You can do it by hand in X search:

  • All mentions except the account’s own posts: search @handle -from:handle, then open the Latest tab.
  • Mentions in a date range: add since:2026-09-01 until:2026-09-30.
  • Only popular mentions: add min_faves:100.
  • In Advanced Search, use the "Mentioning these accounts" field.

Standalone Mentions vs Replies: Why the Split Matters

Most mentions of a busy account are replies in its own threads: people answering its posts. They matter, but they’re a conversation the account already sees. Standalone mentions are different: someone decided to bring the account up in their own post, to recommend it, complain about it or ask about it in front of their followers. For brands they’re the mentions worth reading first, which is why the checker gives them their own tab.

Every public mention is a signal: praise to thank, a complaint to fix, a question to answer, or someone looking for a product like yours. Start with the Standalone mentions tab, where people talk about the brand in their own posts, then sort the most notable ones by what they need from you.

Why Mentions Don’t Show Up in Your Notifications

If a mention appears here but not in your notifications, X is probably filtering it. X can hide notifications from accounts it considers low quality, and from accounts you’ve chosen to mute, such as new accounts or people you don’t follow. Look at the filters in your notification settings. The checker reads public search results, so it isn’t affected by your personal filters.

What Mentions Can and Can’t Show

  • A selection, not everything. X search returns a selection of mentions, so a very busy account gets more mentions than any sample shows. The volume figure is an estimate and says so.
  • Only @mentions. Posts that name a brand without the @ aren’t included. For keywords and hashtags, use Hashtag Analytics.
  • Public posts only. Mentions from protected accounts are private.
