How to Search Tweets by Date on X Itself

X’s search understands date operators. Type this into the search box, with the handle and dates changed:

Add -filter:replies to hide replies, or filter:media to see only posts with photos or video.

On desktop

  1. Open X search, type the query and press Enter.
  2. Switch to the Latest tab to see posts in order.

Or use Advanced search (the “…” next to the search box) and fill in the accounts and dates.

On mobile

  1. Type the same query into the search bar.
  2. Tap Latest.

Advanced search isn’t in the app, but the operators work there.

Why Twitter Search by Date Sometimes Misses Posts

If date search “isn’t working”, it is usually one of four reasons:

  1. Time zones. since: and until: work in UTC days. For someone in New York, a UTC day starts at 7 or 8 in the evening, so late posts land on the “wrong” date. The finder above searches your local day instead.

  2. Latest vs Top. X’s default Top tab shows a selection, not every post. Switch to Latest.

  3. Indexing. X search does not index every post, and very old posts are the most likely to be missing.

  4. Deleted and protected posts. Deleted posts are gone, and protected accounts’ posts appear only to their approved followers.

Which method works depends on what you know about the post:

By date

You know roughly when: search the account by date above, then step day by day around the date you remember.

By popularity

It was popular: the Top Tweets Finder ranks an account’s most liked or most viewed posts, by year.

Your own history

It is your own post: download your X archive and search every post you ever made in the Archive Viewer, including ones X search no longer returns.

Deleted posts

It was deleted: check archived copies with the Deleted Tweet Finder.

Why doesn’t Twitter search by date show all posts?
